The Shannon House From Garage Sale Mystery

I don’t know about you, but I have sure been enjoying Garage Sale Mystery month on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries Channel.  The stories have been captivating, proving this movie series just keeps getting better and better!  I especially loved last weeks mystery, Picture A Murder.  What a fresh take on a murder mystery!  Rather than just finding a dead body, sleuther Jennifer Shannon uncovers this mystery from a photograph, after having some film developed from an old camera.    See what I mean?  What a clever storyline.

Since I began researching Hallmark film locations last year, I have become much more familiar with the areas I see on screen.  Because of this, I decided it was time to re-watch many of the movies I’ve scene on the network, in hopes of recognizing a location or two, to feature on my blog.  During the last couple of weeks, I have re-watched the Garage Sale Mystery movies, all of them but the two that haven’t aired over the last few months.  (# 6 and 7, in case you’re wondering)

The Shannon house has been a featured residence since the pilot movie back in 2013.  This house is quite a looker so naturally, it caught my attention from the start.  While re-watching all of these movies, I paid specific attention to the screen time of this house, most of which showed the same establishing shots of the front and back that we see in pretty much every movie.  But there was one shot that was just different enough and when I saw it, I knew exactly where it was.  Within minutes, I was staring at Jen’s house on my computer screen, compliments of Google Street View.  It was an exciting find (really, they ALL are for me) but this house is so grand and packed with so much curb appeal, I could not wait to make a trip north to snap some photos.

Earlier this week, my friend (and fellow Hallmark fan) Arlene made the trip up to Canada with me, so I could photograph a few locations.  We braved the smoke-filled air of the Pacific Northwest and were pleasantly surprised to find that the air quality in the Fraser Valley of B.C., while still poor, was actually better than at home.   Our first stop was casa Shannon.

The first thing I noticed was the color of the house.  I’d been studying it on screen for more than a week and now that I was looking at it in person, the house was tan, not the gray that I was expecting and that it appears to be on screen.   This was pretty shocking for me, so much so that I went back and scanned through a few eppie’s of the series to take a closer look.  What I found is somewhat mysterious.  The house IS a tan color in person, and in some views on screen, it is clearly tan.  However, the majority of the shots of the house appear to be gray (or greige) on screen.

I went back and checked Google Street View, including the history of photos back to 2011, and the place has always been painted tan.  However, the 2011 view looks much grayer than the clearly tan 2014 photo.  Which begs the question……is my eyesight really that poor or do some of the exterior shots really appear to be gray??????  I believe it is sunshine and lighting that give it the grayer look, but I do find the whole thing rather interesting.

Regardless of the color, the place is beautiful and truly impressive.  The crisp white trim frames the barn-like front exterior and the oval windows and white columns really make a statement, adding class and elegance to the home.  The three-car garage features coachman style doors, contributing to and complimenting the overall feel of this property.  While I do not know the specs on the Shannon home, I can tell you it is on acreage property, not too far from Jen’s antique store, Rags to Riches, which I wrote about here.

Wanna buy the movies?  Please consider making your purchase through the links below.  You always pay the same price and I earn a few cents commission, which directly helps to offset the cost of this website.  Thank you!

What I’m Watching This Weekend:

On Sunday, Chesapeake Shores season 3 returns on the Hallmark Channel with another all-new episode. I don’t know about you but I would sure love to see more of the Chesapeake Shores Mayor, played by actor Mark Brandon.  Mark is a great actor and and stand up guy, well known from a variety of roles on the network.  Wouldn’t it be great to have him on CS as a regular?

Garage Sale Mystery month concludes this weekend with the all new movie mystery, Murder in D Minor.  This will air on the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries channel.  The story looks particularly intriguing and I am looking very forward to watching it.

As always, check your local listings for times.

Thanks for stopping by today and for your continued support.  I will be back soon with an all new Hallmark film location.

This is so interesting, Kerry! The house appears gray on my TV screen, too! I just love that you were able to locate the Shannon home! You make it sound so easy, but that’s just because you’re an expert now on this area.

I also love that barn-look exterior; it is truly a unique style. And I love the extra info you included on it not being too far from Jen’s antique store, Rags to Riches! The beautiful home and the store close-by makes the GSM stories feel even more realistic!

Thank you for sharing this incredible find!
    Blessings, Net

Isn’t it interesting that it looks gray on screen yet is tan in real life? Glad its not only my eyesight! I loved tracking this one down and am grateful it was an easy find for me. I have always been intrigued by this house, since the pilot eppie, so to see it in person is a big deal. I am so happy you enjoyed seeing this one. Thanks so much for your comment Net! 🙂

A possibility here is that older analog cameras, and maybe the never digital cameras as well, need to be adjusted for every use. If the camera mans eyes color things a bit different then the picture will be off a bit. This would explain the difference in colors.

Your TV could also not be adjusted quite right. My new 55 inch Samsung TV’s reds sometimes leans a bit toward blues, making purple. I never had it adjusted as the cost didn’t warrant the improvement, which is minor.
        I hope this helps.

I’m so glad you were finally able to write about the Shannon house, Kerry! I remember you said in the comment section of your Country Lane Antiques article that this house was on your “still looking for” list. I do agree with you about the creativity that the creative team behind the Garage Sale Mystery series has incorporated into these four Garage Sale Mystery Month films! I don’t know if you saw Garage Sale Mysteries: Murder in D Minor, but that mystery was creative as well.

Thanks Sally!!! I was THRILLED when I found it, shortly after I wrote that piece on the antique store. I do love to cross locations off my list!!! These movies just keep getting better and better and I thought the movies that aired in August were all fantastic, especially Murder in D Minor. I really enjoyed that one the most out of the four but as I said, I thought they were all good, fresh, stories. Cannot wait to see what’s in store for us next year! 🙂

I just watched “The Novel Murders”. This is one of my favorite Hallmark Mystery shows (second only to Ro Teegarten); but this house captured my attention from the first show!! Is this considered a ranch style home? It is gorgeous, and I bet very pricey. Thank you so much for posting the photos of the house!

Hi Jessica, welcome! This home does have a touch of ranch style but I do not consider it a ranch home. And yes, it is very spendy, in the several million dollar range….not kidding! A beautiful home, indeed!!! 🙂
