And I would enjoy exploring other small towns. I had wanted to visit Placerville when I was there but time just would not allow. Guess I need to think about coming back! I am watching the movie now on Hallmark. I love the movie, and have it on DVD which I watch at least once during the year. Ed Asner is great, as is Lois Nettleton in her last film role. I live about 40 minutes from Nevada City and enjoy the small town life and friendly people. There are lots of similar small towns within an hour or two that you should check out if you ever come back to the Sierra Nevada foothills. Thanks so much for posting this. I just got done watching The Christmas Card for the umpteenth time. It is one of my favorites. We life about 30 min from Nevada City/ Grass Valley so it’s always nice to see that movie knowing it was filmed just up the road. That area doesn’t get a ton of snow so I wondered if they had to make some, but 2006 they did get more than usual so that was perfect for the movie. I signed up for your blog posts and look forward to reading them. Thanks again!!!

Jack, thanks so much for your comment and observations. Good work!!! Ed was SO great in his role and totally MADE the movie. As far as leaving the plaque, keep in mind that the movie prop was likely something that looked heavy duty and sturdy but probably wasn’t. Not sure exactly who production would have had to speak with but my guess is, it would have been a lot harder to do than it would seem.

There was a TV show called Bates Motel (I never saw it) and it filmed in Aldergrove, BC. I may not have ever seen the show, but I DID want to see the set, which was built on a public street and attracted fans from all over. (Sadly, it was torn down a couple months before I found out about it) Production told the city they would gladly leave it up since it attracted so many fans. But the issue of maintenance and security came up and bam, the place was leveled. Super sad too, as it was an iconic location, even for someone like me who never even watched the show. 🙂

Loved the Movie and I watch it every Christmas season. Great job touring the sites afterwards for us. I as a Veteran noticed that the cover for this movie shows Cody’s rank on his lapel as a Sergent E-5. But in the movie it shows his rank as a master Sergent E-8. Quite a difference……………. about 10 plus years of service. Liked the story line as Ed Asner did a great job reeling everyone in to his way of thinking. As a Veteran how hard would it have been to have left the Memorial Plaque in place at the bridge? Thank you for your information on what seems to be a sweet town, Nevada City.

Shirley, thank you so much for checking my post out. SO glad you enjoyed it. If you are a fan of the movie, I highly recommend you plan a visit to Nevada City. Maybe not right now, but once the dust has settled and we return to a new normal. You will not be disappointed! 🙂

The Christmas Card is my favorite Hallmark Christmas movie. I have also been to Nevada City a couple of times. It is a beautiful little town.
