I believe the first time I saw The Christmas Card would of been 2009! About 16 years ago! It has been a favorite of mine over the years! I don’t have a hard copy of it, but did purchase it online. I never would of guessed at the time that I would one day visit Nevada City! I moved to Auburn, CA which is only about 35 minutes from Nevada City, mid September of this year. I have been to Nevada City twice now. Once to eat at a Cafe, and to shop, and once to go for a walk on the trails in the woods! And honestly I didn’t even realize until my best friend who introduced me to the movie years ago, said, Holly that is where The Christmas Card was filmed! Honestly I think from the stress of moving my home and work to a new town, from southern cal, I just didn’t even realize the town I had visited was from my favorite Christmas movie!! LOL! She told me her brother had looked up different locations from the film to visit. So I decided to do my own investigation, thus I found your website and documentations! So glad I found this website! Thank you for all the information, very thorough and the maps and pictures! I will definitely do the tour ASAP!

I am reading this for the first time. I live 20 minutes from Nevada City and have only seen the church and cafe. I think this spring I will visit all the locations you have mentioned..

Thank you so much for the beautiful pics and memories of The Christmas Note. It is my favorite Hallmark Christmas movie! I lost my 39 yr old son Kyle who was a Fern Creek Ky Fireman in May of 2021. I am a working RN of 47 yrs and have always loved watching Hallmark Christmas in July as well as the Christmas. Kyle always made fun of me and cont joked with me”Geez Mom, how can you watch them so many times” . Truth is Hallmark Christmas has and still cont to help place me in a “peaceful “ zone and gives me a couple of hrs to forget about the pain and ache of losing my son. The Christmas Note does just that. Thank you for a fantastic walk thru this beautiful town your pictures are wonderful ! I look forward to more journeys on the backroads if Hallmark movies!

I was browsing around online this evening and came across your delightful blog!
I love the movie, The Christmas Card, and I was actually trying to find where my daughter and I could watch the movie this Christmas season.
I grew up in Grass Valley and when I was married, my husband and I settled in
Nevada City.
I am a widow now and currently live in Western Washington State.
Here’s a fun fact; I graduated from Nevada Union High in 1967…Cathy Sahl Whittlesy was in my class.
Thank you for giving me a beautiful stroll through my hometown.

My wife and I just visited Nevada City. We were in the California for wedding in Sonoma but our highlight was all The Christmas Card locations. We stayed at the beautifully renovated National Hotel. We had coffee at the Nevada City Cafe. Visited the church and met Mary Ann who was actually in the movie, found the Christmas tree lot and drove out to the highway 49 bridge The real highlight was meeting Tom Rowe and his son who where both in the movie. Tom is owner of Kubich Sawmill Tom told us stories and us “stay a while”. I ride a motorcycle. I was in the army and married my wife upon returning from service. Thank you for this wonderful article.

The home is so tucked away I doubt anyone would ever find it unless they had a tip off.
I also would never disclose the location I respect the owners wishes, they’d be inundated with fans and no privacy.
I will say this, the house is as magical and majestic as it appeared in the movie.

Kerry, this was fabulous. I live about 3 hours South of Nevada City and it’s one of my FAVORITE films. I always research filming locations and typically, Hallmark films are filmed in Vancouver. I couldn’t believe it was actually filmed in Nevada City and there actually WAS a Nevada City because even as a California native, I had never heard of it! Naturally, I had to go visit! Then, I went up several more times and now I’m looking at buying a home there 🙂 All because of this wonderful film! I love to see when fellow film enthusiasts go to see movie locations as well! And I love how the people of the town speak so kindly about Ed Asner. Apparently he made many friends while filming there and has returned since! I loved this post so much! Thank you!
